"Your identity is your most valuable possession–protect it." I love this quote from Pixar's original Incredibles movie. We all know that we have to protect our credit card numbers and our social security numbers, passwords, etc. But did you know that your health information and your insurance information is a prime target for fraud? Every year millions of people find themselves victims of medical identity theft. $80 billion is stolen from our country every year through medical fraud and abuse. Where do you think they're stealing it from?
They're stealing it from your insurance information. It's possible that a crime ring or a group of individuals are trying to defraud the system and they bill your insurance so that your insurance will pay them for their bogus claims. The other reason why your health insurance numbers are more valuable than your credit cards is because your credit cards all come with limits. Think about it. You may have $1,000 limit, you may have a $5,000 limit, but your insurance numbers have no limit. So basically it's given the fraudsters a blank check to get whatever they want, and then debt get paid for it by our health care system.
We want you to avoid the headache of identity theft, and be proactive about your security. We've got the tools you need to learn how to properly protect yourself–you can become your very own police officer to serve and protect your identity.
When I think of security and protection, I think first about the brave men and women who serve on police forces across the country.
