Australian Sisalkraft, 356 Torrens Road Kilkenny, designed by Keith Neighbour of Cheesman, Doley, Brabham & Neighbour, 1960-62. This concrete block showroom, office and factory complex is a local landmark with its dramatic reinforced concrete parabolic arch supporting a suspended entrance canopy. Blades along the southern façade of the office and showroom shade the large plate glass windows. Landscaping of the prominent corner site uses Mintaro slate paving, hollow block garden walls and blue and white tiled circular ponds. The factory to the rear is lit naturally by clerestory windows beneath staggered gable roofs. #modernistadelaide #modernist #modernism #mcm #midcenturymodern #midcenturymodernarchitecture #midcentury #midcenturyadelaide #architecture #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #archdaily #adlarchigram #adelaidearchitecture #adelaideheritage #australianmodern #australianmodernism #australianarchitecture #adelaide #1960s #60s #concrete #southaustralia #arch #factory

A lime plinth that we’ve installed 7-8 yrs ago, with both modern and traditional tar damp courses. Good to see the salt related deterioration has been contained below dpc. EXCITING NEWS: I’m about to publish Modernist Adelaide: 100 Buildings 1940s–1970s – the first book to provide a large-scale survey of Adelaide’s mid-century architecture. It’s based on two years of research, site visits and photography and is beautifully designed by internationally-acclaimed @montagueprojects. I’d love to have a drink with you at the book launch on Thu 12 Dec at Crack Kitchen, where copies will be for sale. They’d make a fine Christmas gift I reckon. Bookings essential at http://bit.ly/MAbooklaunch and if you can’t make it to the launch, you can pre-order at the link in the bio above. #modernistadelaide #modernist #modernism #mcm #midcenturymodern #midcenturymodernarchitecture #midcentury #midcenturyadelaide #architecture #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #archdaily #adlarchigram #adelaidearchitecture #adelaideheritage #australianmodern #australianmodernism #australianarchitecture #house #modernisthouse #midcenturyhouse #adelaide #midcenturydesign #brutalist #brutalism #bookcover #abstractillustration #illustration
